GET INVOLVED
Music plays a vital role at St. Mark’s, deepening faith and reaching out to the community. Dr. Gregory Crowell, Professor of Music at Grand Valley State University, is our Director of Music. Under his leadership, the choirs, the organists, and visiting performers inspire us to enjoy fellowship through music.
Adult Choir
The Adult Choir sings a broad repertoire of choral music, always keeping sight of its Anglican heritage. From September through May, the choir leads the congregation in song on Sunday mornings at our 10:30 am service. An organ scholar and choral scholars are selected from area colleges to participate in St. Mark’s music program.
Adult Choir is open to all adults, including high school and college students. No auditions are required and new members are welcome at any time. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 7:30 – 9 p.m. (September through May). Please contact Dr. Crowell to inquire.
Bell Choir
The Bell Choir plays at specific times of the year and enhances our worship experience with the bright sounds of the bells. Audition is required as you must read music in order to fully participate in this particular music form. Speak with Dr. Crowell about rehearsal and play dates regarding the Bell Choir.
Pipe Organ
In 2004, the English firm J.W. Walker installed a new organ in St. Mark’s worship space. This elegant four-manual, tracker-action instrument has 57 stops, 71 ranks of pipes, and is ingeniously designed to speak into the Nave, Transept, and Choir, controlled from a detached, reversed console.

The concert series Sacred Sounds at St. Mark’s began with the 2008–2009 season, and has quickly become an important addition to the cultural life of the parish and of Grand Rapids. This free concert series has welcomed such local and international performers as Anonymous 4, The American Boychoir, English tenor Charles Daniels, the Grand Rapids Symphony Youth Chorus, African dance troupe Bi-Okoto, the Grand Rapids Choir of Men and Boys, the Grand Valley State University Gospel Choir, English organist Martin Neary, and Ensemble Caprice. St. Mark’s own choir regularly participates in the series by singing services of Choral Evensong, Lessons and Carols, and performances of major choral works with orchestra. These free concerts take place at 5:00 p.m. on various Sundays throughout the year. Please consult the calendar for information, and contact the church office if you would like to be added to the mailing list.
